We’re Hiring! Art Lead (NOW FILLED)
2ndcity Studios is a Christian game studio based in Mt Eden, Auckland and we are needing a ninja with killer art sherakins (or skills, actually) to join our team.
Here’s the story:
We are currently building an allegorical online virtual world for Tweens based on the storyline of the bible. We are midway through our alpha build and our current art lead, having established our art style is now moving on to new things.
Your job in joining the team would involve taking this art style (which we are quite fond of) and helping it mature into every aspect of our world. You would be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the art style, as well as creating and enforcing guidelines for other outsourced artists to follow. To do this, your ninja blood will have blessed you with an exceptional artists eye & talent. Your ninja training will have endowed you with exceptional skills in photoshop and other adobe (or similar) products, and if you also chose to learn the ways of 3d modelling and animation, whilst not core to your role will always be advantageous. One thing is certain however – you must have experience in the games industry.
You will be working closely with the game producer and the lead worldbuilder to translate and/or improve upon their vision. You will be also be working within a wider team of writers and support staff, and interacting and interfacing with our partner studio who are handling much of the technical work.
As a studio, a “relational fit” is very important to us, and so a few words about our studio:
Our mission statement is “to tell an alternative story.” We do this in three main ways:
Firstly, we are a Christian studio, and so an understanding of and appreciation for the studios adherence to the biblical story as a way of living is important. We make no qualms about this, however you will find a wide variety of theological traditions within the staff!
Secondly, collaboration, creativity and agility are some of our integral values. This means we regularly discuss each others ideas and work, and regularly pull apart each others ideas to make them stronger. We try and avoid “silos” where possible, and so you will need to be okay with people sticking their nose into your work and we would expect you to do the same. You would need to be comfortable, in fact relish the idea of working in such an environment.
Lastly, one of our mantras is “to rise as a team, to fall as a team.” Our work method is highly social, and so we would expect you to contribute meaningfully to the studio culture. We aim for the studio to feel like family. This means you need to be okay with being yourself around us, the occasional after hours social gathering, doing life together. We would also expect you to work in the studio, but we can be flexible around start/finish times if needed.
Salary package will be determined on a case by case basis, depending on experience and expertise etc. We do aim to be competitive!
So how to apply?
We need to see evidence of your ninja blood and training. We also need to know if you can indwell our art style, and so we want you to complete an art test.
