NZACS

Last tuesday (the 16th) we had the awesome opportunity to sponsor the evening dinner at the NZACS (NZ Association of Christian Schools) conference. It was a fabulous opportunity to be able to speak about The Aetherlight to a group who are our ‘target market.’ We are keen for schools to adopt The Aetherlight as their default “bible” or “Religious Education” programme (as they currently do with Mathletics for Maths), and so being able to pitch to a room full of 250 Christian Teachers and Principals was definitely a great opportunity.

We really went to town with the theming of the dinner, with every table having a steampunk centrepiece, which involved various flasks of presevered creatures, gas lamps, little vials of unknown substances, and old knick-knacks and relics that really set the scene. We also had mannequins displaying steampunk fashion, and a few steampunk weapons on display, as well as some large street lamps, victorian style.

The team did a really good job of not only putting the evening together and finding / making all the various pieces, but also of mixing and mingling on the night, talking to people about the project and answering any questions they had.

Brook and Tim were able to spend 15 minutes talking through the game story and philosophy from the front, which really captivated people. We got a tonne of new sign ups to our email database, and a lot of great interest.

We also had the opportunity to run 3 sessions at the conference during the day. Brook and Tim spoke about Capturing the Digital Natives, Carl spoke about Biblical Pedagogy and Sam spoke about “the dropoff problem” (why Young Adults are leaving churches). Copies of the slideshows from these sessions are available below.

Digital Natives – Brook Warner and Tim Cleary

The Drop off Problem – Sam Burrows
