Unity3D / C# Developer wanted

 In Uncategorized

We are on the hunt for another dev to join our programming team. Ideally, you will have experience with game servers and the server side requirements of building a virtual world, as well as client side Unity3D experience.

Here’s our advert:

2ndcity Studios is a Christian Game Studio based in Mt Eden, Auckland. We believe in the power of games to create immersive and effective learning experiences that can bring about positive behaviour, and as such we design and build educational games for children. We have a passion for education and for children to be encouraged to make a positive impact on their local communities and environments.

We’re building a children’s MMO / Virtual World based on the storyline of the Bible and we are looking for an intermediate C# / Unity3D developer to join our development team and add some extra oomph. We’re part-way through our development with a private beta planned for July… which is getting steadily closer by the minute. Between now and then, we have several systems that we need to add to the engine. Your work will be mostly client side focused, so we’d love you to have an passion for great user gaming experiences. If you could also bring with you an understanding of  the server side of virtual worlds, MMOs, and the intricacies of iPad deployment that’d be very helpful.

Ideally you’ve had 2-3 years of experience in the industry (preferably the gaming industry) and spent all or most of that time getting to know Unity3D like the back of your right hand (or your left hand, if you are one of those left handed types). One thing we really need you to bring in your lunchbox is a deep understanding of the technical limitations of iPads (and other tablet devices), because they can be a bit idiosyncratic. You should know what will and wont work on an iPad when we are designing things so that we don’t make things that aren’t going to fly! We are also keen to find someone with server side experience too – so if you know your way around SmartFox Server or something similar, that’s a massive bonus.

Other skills needed:

  • An top notch understanding of Unity3D / C#
  • You understand me when I say: Object Oriented Programming
  • You’ve entered the scrum and kanban dojo and used your newfound agility to escape alive
  • The ability to take direction, as well as contribute to decisions makes things for everyone just much cooler
  • An understanding of version control systems (GIT) will help with day to day life for you
  • The ability to communicate to other programmers key concepts or ideas

Our studio is a great place to work, with a development team of 3 and a full team of 13. We have a great culture and aim for high levels of collaboration and having fun together. Our Studio is owned by a Christian Trust whose vision is to create game based resources that open up the story of the bible in fun and engaging ways for 21st century kids. You don’t need to be a Christian to work with us, just passionate about gaming and supportive of our vision.

Please note if you make the short list we will require you to take a programming test to determine your suitability for the role.
