Concept Artist (NOW FILLED)

 In Uncategorized

UPDATE:  The deadline for this test has been set as Wednesday the 14th of November 2012.

Are you interested in working for us?

2ndcity Studios are a Christian Game Studio based in Mt Eden, Auckland and are building an allegorical Bible based virtual world for 10-14year olds. The visual style is a Victorian / Parisian steam-punk, in 22.5 isometric view, and is set in a mysterious land that is pervaded by a thick, nasty fog.

We are seeking a noble adventurer to be our 2nd concept artist – your quest will be to assist our lead concept artist in creating even more awesome concept art, as quite honestly, there is just too much for her to do by herself.

Do you have what it takes?
You must be able to match our existing art style, and have experience in pencil sketch concepting and digital clean up. Experience in digital painting and colouring would be nice, with a sound understanding of Adobe Products. Ideally we are looking for someone who has recently graduated (or is about to graduate) from an applicable course, and also someone who understands games and game art.

In other news, our offices are bright, fun, and open plan. We have a great team atmosphere here and we are all quite excited by the possibility of another staff member!

This is a full time role with a duration of around 3 months, which may be extended if required.

If this sounds like you, please explore our website to learn more about our project and then click here to download the art test.

This is borderline immoral especially for a christian organisation, collect the ideas and individual expressions of struggling artists and combine them together… Wont need to hire anyone if you have a book full of ideas right?

Rather, follow the world standards of hiring people: Post the job, interview prospects, make a decision. ethics people

      Hi Joe

Thanks for the comment. Interesting though, because I don’t think we are doing either. Can you explain why you think this is immoral? We are simply asking to see if you can fit in / replicate our existing art style set by our art lead. This is standard practice in the games industry.

Alot of concept art companies use art tests.

If a company gives a different art test to each applicant and then uses the results that can be a problem, but when everyone gets the same test it’s pretty standard stuff and quite understandable/normal.

Yes, I work in the animation industry and its not uncommon to see art tests requested before hiring. Hiring and interviewing in the entertainment/media sector isn’t always as straightforward as offering a contract based on interview and portfolio.. and art tests are a good test of the ability to respond to a live brief.
